Ultimate Frisbee Jersey Size Guide: Fit & Measurements

In summary

Choosing jersey sizes for an entire ultimate frisbee team is easier when you separate cut from size. Let each player choose the fit they prefer, then measure against the correct chart for that cut.

  • Choose the cut first, then choose the size.
  • Loose and fitted cuts use the same seven size labels, but their measurements are different.
  • The 10-piece minimum applies to the design as a whole, so you can mix loose and fitted jerseys in the same order.

None of it is complicated once you stop treating the cut as a stand-in for gender or assuming that the same size means the same fit across different jersey cuts. Here’s how to get the sizing right for your whole team.

Loose vs fitted ultimate jersey cuts

Manta Squadron jerseys come in two cuts: a looser cut and a fitted cut. Both are available across the same seven sizes, from XXS to XXL.

The difference is the silhouette. The choice is about how the player wants the jersey to fit, not about garment quality or price.

Loose cut

The loose cut has a more relaxed silhouette and gives players more room through the body. It can be a good choice if you prefer a traditional team jersey feel or simply want more room while playing.

Fitted cut

The fitted cut has a narrower silhouette and shorter body length at the same size label. It is designed for players who prefer a closer fit.

Which cut should I choose?

There isn’t a universal right answer. Two players wearing the same size can legitimately prefer different cuts.

That’s why we recommend asking every player directly rather than deciding the cut for them. A mixed roster can contain any combination of the two cuts, including a team where everyone chooses the same one.

It costs nothing extra to offer both cuts in the same order. See our guide to ordering your first kit for the other decisions that go into planning your team order.

How to measure for your ultimate jersey

The easiest way to choose an ultimate jersey size is to compare the measurements with a jersey that already fits you well.

Step 1: Choose your cut

Decide whether you want the loose or fitted cut first.

This matters because the two cuts use different measurements at the same size label. A medium in the loose cut is not the same garment dimension as a medium in the fitted cut.

Step 2: Measure a jersey that fits you

Lay a jersey that already fits you well flat and measure it according to the measurements shown in the Manta Squadron size chart.

Using an existing jersey can be easier and more consistent than measuring your body, particularly when you’re comparing the measurements of two different cuts.

Step 3: Use the correct chart

Once you’ve chosen your cut, use the sizing chart for that cut. Don’t compare a fitted measurement with the loose chart just because the size label is the same.

Step 4: Record the final size

Once the player has chosen their cut and size, add it to the team roster.

This gives the captain one simple list to work from when placing the order:

Name → Cut → Size

How to collect sizes from a mixed roster

If you’re ordering jerseys for a whole team, the easiest approach is to send everyone the same three questions.

1. What’s your name?
2. Which cut do you want?
3. What size do you need?

Make sure everyone has seen the sizing chart before answering. Asking someone to choose a cut without knowing what the measurements actually mean simply moves the guesswork one step earlier.

For example:

PlayerCutSize
AlexLooseM
JamieFittedS
SamLooseL
TaylorFittedM

This avoids one of the most common problems with team orders: someone choosing a size based on what they normally wear from another brand without checking the actual measurements.

Captain’s tip: save the final roster somewhere you can find it next season. If a new player joins halfway through the season, you can use the same cut-and-size process rather than trying to remember what everyone ordered.

Do different cuts count toward the same minimum order?

Yes.

The 10-piece minimum applies to the design as a whole, not separately to each cut.

So if your roster comes back with:

  • 6 loose jerseys
  • 4 fitted jerseys

That’s one order of 10 jerseys. You don’t need 10 loose jerseys and another 10 fitted jerseys.

The same principle applies to sizes. Your order can contain whatever combination of cuts and sizes your roster needs, provided the total order meets the applicable minimum.

Ultimate jersey size chart

The loose and fitted cuts use two separate sizing charts. They are not one chart with a simple modifier applied.

The loose cut runs from 43–61 cm across the chest from XXS to XXL. The fitted cut runs from 40–58 cm across the same seven size labels.

The same size label therefore does not mean the same garment dimensions across the two cuts.

Use the complete Manta Squadron sizing chart to check the exact measurements for the cut and size you’ve selected before placing your order.

Important: always measure against the chart for the cut the player has actually chosen. Don’t choose a cut based on the size label alone.

Common ultimate jersey sizing mistakes

  1. Assuming the cut from gender.Cut is a fit preference. Ask each player directly rather than assuming which one they want.
  2. Choosing the size before choosing the cut.The same size label can have different measurements in the loose and fitted cuts. Choose the cut first.
  3. Using another brand’s size as a reference.A medium from one manufacturer isn’t necessarily the same as a medium from another. Use the actual Manta Squadron measurements.
  4. Measuring against the wrong chart. This is particularly easy to do when a team is ordering both cuts. Confirm the cut before checking the size.
  5. Ignoring fit preference.A measurement can tell you whether a garment is likely to fit, but it doesn’t tell you whether a player prefers a relaxed or closer fit.
  6. Not keeping the final roster.Save the cut and size for every player so replacements and future orders are easier to manage.

How many spare jerseys should a team order?

If your roster changes frequently, consider ordering a few spare jerseys with your main team order.

A couple of strategically chosen spares can be useful when:

  • A new player joins during the season.
  • Someone needs a replacement.
  • A jersey is lost or damaged.
  • Your team wants to keep a small stock for future players.

The best sizes and cuts for spare jerseys depend on your actual roster. If you’re unsure, send us your rough player numbers and we’ll help you work out what makes sense.

Frequently asked questions

Do we need 10 jerseys in each cut?

No. The 10-piece minimum applies to the whole design. You can split the order between loose and fitted jerseys in any combination. Six loose and four fitted clears the same minimum as ten of one cut.

Are loose and fitted jerseys the same size?

They use the same size labels from XXS to XXL, but the actual garment measurements are different. Always use the sizing chart for the cut you have selected.

Does ordering both cuts cost extra?

No. Pricing is per piece, not per cut.

Can everyone on a team choose a different cut?

Yes. A team can order any combination of loose and fitted jerseys, provided the total order meets the applicable minimum.

What if I’m between two sizes?

Start with the actual measurements rather than the label you normally wear. If you’re between sizes, consider how you want the jersey to fit and contact us if you’re unsure.

What if a player changes their mind about their cut?

Tell us as early as possible. It’s much easier to make a sizing correction before the design proof is finalized and before production starts.

Do mixed teams need a specific ratio of loose and fitted jerseys?

No. Order whatever your roster actually needs. Your team could have an even split, a heavily weighted mix, or everyone could choose the same cut.

Where can I find the measurements for both cuts?

Use the Manta Squadron sizing chart to see the complete measurements for both the loose and fitted cuts before choosing a size.
